

Kamisha Thomas is a visionary leader, curator, filmmaker, and advocate dedicated to empowering incarcerated and formerly incarcerated artists. As the co-founder and co-CEO of the Returning Artists Guild, she has built a nationally recognized organization that fosters resilience and reduces recidivism through peer-driven support, mentorship, and creative expression. Under her leadership, the Guild curates powerful exhibitions, facilitates professional development, and provides essential resources—including case management, healthcare referrals, and community reintegration support—to artists impacted by the justice system.With two years of experience managing a $250,000+ annual budget, Kamisha has successfully secured funding through grant writing and strategic partnerships, expanding the Guild’s reach and impact. She is a sought-after public speaker, engaging funders, abolitionist communities, and art institutions in critical conversations about justice, creativity, and social change.Her dedication to justice and the arts has been recognized through the competitive Right of Return Fellowship in 2020 and support from the Art for Justice Fund in 2021. In addition to her work with the Guild, Kamisha is also active in film, using storytelling as a tool for advocacy and representation. Looking ahead, she envisions establishing a permanent gallery and artist residency program, continuing to transform the landscape of arts and justice.
